 An Introduction to Australia

The land of the Marsupials and Crocodile Dundee is known for owning some of the world’s most dangerous snakes, spiders and insects. However, there is much more to Australia than overbearing stereotypes and crocodile wrestlers. This liberal country is the smallest continent in the world and also the largest island.

The Pacific Coast Touring Route is the perfect way to enjoy the diverse culture and scenery of Australia. The tour starts in the heart of Sydney and finishes at the Gold Coast and Brisbane. In between, you can take in the cafés and beaches at Newcastle and Nobby’s Bay, the vines at Hunter Valley, the harbour at Coff’s Coast and the walking tracks of Byron Bay. Many rent a holiday home either at the start of their stay to ready themselves for the journey ahead, or at the end to relax and unwind.

The nature of the climate ensures a wide choice of landscapes, from the arid deserts of the outback and rain forests of North Queensland to the untapped coastlines of Bundaberg and Rockhampton clinging to the Pacific Ocean. Whether you enjoy the top surf conditions at Tamarama, Bells Beach and Boomerang Beach, the electric sights and sounds of the cosmopolitan cities or the safari tours in the outback locations of Alice Springs, Uluru (Ayers Rock), the Blue Mountains and Simpson Desert, Australian offers a wide choice of activities for tourists

When to go to Australia and Weather

Many regions of Australia (especially the outback) are not an ideal habitat to live amongst with arid deserts and dangerous rainy seasons. The Australian tourism low season is October to March (summer), and is too hot, humid or wet. The best times of year to visit are during the winter months of April to September, when the conditions are perfect for travelling.

Getting to Australia and Getting Around

Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere, so travelling to the country can be an ordeal for many travellers, but the journey is worth the sacrifice. Most flights to the country involve a stopover of some kind, normally in Asia because of the long distances involved.

The Indian Pacific from Sydney to Perth

Getting around Australia is easy due to the excellent frastructure, but because of the large distances that may need to be covered, check out the domestic flights timetables. The domestic flights are good value for money and very efficient. Touring by train is a solid option because the carriages are very comfortable, and the Indian-Pacific rail trip, which takes you from Perth to Sydney, is picturesque and gratifying.

Useful Information

Australia is a very welcoming and a safe place to travel, but please be sure you have a guide when visiting the open spaces of the outback, because tourists have been known to experience problems within this rugged terrain, so be prepared.
