Adults only long-house with wonderful views
This ancient Breton long-house is set in a tranquil location close to a trout river, with a forest nearby; it has far reaching rural views. The three bedroom, three shower-room gite accommodation has been extensively updated and fully equipped for year round self catering vacation rentals by couples, groups of friends and older families.

La Vieille Longere is popular with walkers, cyclists, bird-watchers and anglers. It is just 3km from the friendly market village of Plessala, with a good selection of restaurants available within a 10km radius.

Being situated just an hour's drive from ferry and airports and within easy reach of medieval towns, chateaux, beautiful beaches, inland lakes with water sports, and golf courses, means the longere also provides an ideal base for touring the region.

Although this gite is not suitable for young children, families with teenagers are welcome. It is also available as a ground floor one bedroom gite for couples (Ref id: RO00916).

La Vielle Longere offers fully renovated, well maintained vacation rental accommodation for adults, in a setting that guarantees peace, relaxation and magnificent views.

The apartment is entered through a traditional Breton arched stone doorway, leading into a double height hall featuring restored oak beams and A-frames.

To the left is the well equipped kitchen which along with the normal applicances, has lots of cooking utensils, pots and pans, crockery and glassware suitable for meal preparation throughout the year. The window seat underlines the depth of the ancient granite walls (now insulated).

Opposite is the dual aspect living room with french doors opening onto the rear terrace. It is furnished with large comfy sofas, a full size dining suite and a rocking chair. There is a wood burner with an additional top box that is good for mulling wine, warming plates or keeping a casserole ticking over.

At the back of the apartment is the double bedroom, which also has french doors and a couple of rattan arm chairs to take outside if required. A modern shower room completes the gite accommodation.

Outside the rear terrace has a built-in barbecue and hardwood outdoor furniture, it is an ideal place to enjoy an evening meal whilst appreciating wonderful sunsets over the forest, followed by clear night skies full of stars. To one side of the terrace a large raised stone bed is planted with herbs, which along with the pots of flowering annuals seem to attract masses of butterflies in summer. Beyond the terrace a small grassed area edged with currant bushes opens onto a large rough paddock with oak and apple trees.

There is plenty of on-site parking, and guests may use a separately accessed lockable store to keep cycles, fishing tackle or golf clubs. A rotary dryer is available for clothes drying.

The ground floor is suitable for guests wishing to avoid stairs and has level access, but please note there are no specific disabled facilties.

This really is a chill-out zone, somewhere slow down and admire the sunset over the forest then star gaze at clear skies. Relax with a book and a drink, watch the bird life (including green and spotted woodpeckers, common and honey buzzards, kestrels, wood pigeons), or sketch the scenery.

In the surrounding area, cycle around peaceful country lanes spotting Celtic crosses, follow the marked forest paths on foot, bike or join a pony trek, and look out for deer or search for mushrooms.

In the valley, stroll beside the River Lié, cross the ancient stepping stones at 'le Site de la Roche au Cerf' and admire the ongoing restoration of the original water mill, dangle a rod in and catch a trout or hire a kayak nearby at La Prenessaye for a different view of the river.

The route of the former railway line can be accessed at several points locally, forming a network of well signed and maintained cycle/foot paths where the abundant flora and fauna of this area can be observed.

The thriving market village of Plessala close by and it is just a short drive to several other small towns offering a selection of activities from bread making to , attractions, shops and restaurants it is easy to enjoy your holiday without having to travel very far.

If you prefer to go out and about, within half an hour it is possible to canoe, fish or water ski on Lake Guerledan, cycle beside the Nantes-Brest canal, play golf at Ploermel or Lamballe, tour the chateaux at Josselin, Pontivy or Hunaudaye, enjoy market day in one of the many amazingly preserved medieval towns this part of Brittany has to offer, or head towards the Emerald coast and explore rocky coves, mussel beds and stunning beaches.

A wide selection of large scale local maps, tourist information and booklets about the region are kept for guests to use; and the owners (who live next door) are happy to assist with booking restaurants or suggesting places to go and good routes to get there, if required.
